About this deal

Whole-wheat flour is practically non-existent in Peru (and most of South America). Locals use white flour. Later on, I found (expensive) whole-wheat flour Lima’s organic stores/markets. This 1000g stove is an ideal way of cooking on the go, particularly on trips where camping-specific fuel may be hard to come by. It's also a good choice as an emergency stove to keep handy 'just incase'. This stove/range is designed to work with 20 lb bulk-style propane tanks or 16.4 oz disposable propane cylinders. It can heat the oven up to 425 degrees F (218 C). The overall size is 21 x 17.5 x 14.5 inches (53 x 44 x 37 cm). The weight when assembled is 36 lb (16.3 kg). My experience is that the Aluminum dutch oven works much better for baking then the cast iron, seems to distribute the heat around better without burning bread bottoms. Just did some scones with an experiment of not taking the top off and just turned heat off last 10 mins. browned on top just fine. Just a little steam exited when lid lifted, may have to do with moistness of dough? Didn’t seem to get the steaming effect at all? I lay an oven thermometer on top of oven and can see it through hole of parka, gets to 425 degrees in 15 mins. on medium flame. I’ve heard the fire blanket idea a few times. And I really want to get my hands on something like that. Sounds like a good idea. Reply The baking area is 26 x 12.5 inches (66 x 32 cm) and the total dimensions are 32 x 14 x 9 inches (81 x 36 x 23 cm). The oven weighs 41 lb (18.6 kg). Many solar ovens work well in the range of 150 to 200ºF but have difficulty climbing much higher. While some users are able to cook impressive dishes using solar ovens, these are usually best for heating foods that have been pre-cooked and simply require re-heating. Bemco 9″ is interesting, but sheet aluminum looses heat fast, and a little on small size, would like to try one inside. Says it will get to 500 degrees in 90 secs.????? anyone seen a verify on that? Reply With the Coleman Camp Oven the discussion was a bit different as it wasn’t a total ‘yes’ from Coen nor a rigorous ‘no’ from me. We both hesitated. Hence not the discussion for weeks or months, but years. Not sure if you should go with the Camp Chef oven or the one from Coleman? Then you’re definitely in the right place because this detailed comparison will tell you everything you need to know about the two camping ovens! Whether you’re camping, tailgating, or hosting a cookout, food is an integral component of the experience. Different portable camp ovens offer various features, so consider what types of food you’ll be cooking when exploring your options. Thermometer If you already have a good cooking station that works on liquid or solid fuel, then you might want to think about some of those simple folding ovens that use some external heat. They will do the job.

Now, let’s talk about the power of the Camp Chef oven a bit. It has 7,500 BTUs per burner, while the oven has 3,000 BTUs. The power of burners is equal to that of your household stovetop, which is awesome. But the oven is not nearly as powerful, which means that cooking in it takes longer. For bread you need stores, and for stores you need to be a village/town. Often we camp in the countryside and thus can’t buy fresh bread. This is yet another example of an oven that has its own heat source. So the inner burner is with 3500 BTU power, but you also have two range burners rated 4000 BTU each.

After some experiments we found baking on the top shelf produces better results (of course only if the space is sufficient). The reason is probably because the bottom is much hotter yet the hot air rises to the top, so you’ll get more top heat and less at the bottom. The problem of losing to much heat through gaps and poor insulation of the sheet metal housing we compensate by putting a fire blanket (heat-resistant) over the the oven Reply Take the bread out of the baking form and put it upside down on the grate to color the top for 5 minutes. An alternate option for larger groups is to choose a stove that can be daisy-chained to another system. For example, the Jetboil Genesis Basecamp System and Eureka Ignite Plus can be linked to other Jetboil or Eureka models and connected to a single propane bottle. This allows you to increase cooking space without having to lug around a heavy freestanding stove. And on outings where you don’t need the added burner(s), simply leave one of the stoves behind. Two burners are sufficient for most campers Burner Power: BTUs

We’ll cover everything from top heat to how many things you can cook simultaneously, so by the end of this comparison you should have a good idea of which portable oven is the better option for you. So, read on to figure out which camping oven you should buy! Weight And Portability Christa pointed out while you can’t find whole-wheat flour, salvado de trigo is a common product, which is the husk of the wheat. In this manner we can sort of create our own whole-wheat/multi-grain version by combining the two, plus a number of other ingredients. To solve this problem, I bought a 20cm x 20cm ceramic tile that I positioned inside on the bottom of the oven. This worked well and now I get a good even heat throughout the oven when cooking. Joining the Cascade Classic above is another well-rounded budget design from Coleman: their Triton Camping Stove. The tabletop design features two strong, highly adjustable 11,000 BTU burners that run on a standard 16-ounce propane canister (adapters are available to make it compatible with a larger tank). With decent simmer control and solid output at full tilt, the Coleman is one of only a few stoves in its price range that’s capable enough for cooking diverse meals. Last but not least, its 11-pound weight and manageable size make the Triton easy to transport in a car and store at home. The Camp Chef oven is more user-friendly not just because of the see-through front but also because of the lower temperature. It doesn’t get hotter than 400ºF, so if you’re cooking something that generally requires higher temperatures you can just put it in the oven and forget about it.

Camping Stoves: If the portable oven you choose doesn’t include stovetop burners, but you still want the option to cook multiple dishes at once,a separate camping stove might be the way to go. Remember that you will need a separate fuel source hookup for your oven and your stove if you plan to use them at the same time. The oven weighs 32 lb (14.5 kg) and the inner dimensions of the oven are (L x W x H) 11 x 16 x 9 inches (28 x 40.6 x 23 cm). So you realize this is a full-size oven, and it can provide the temperature in the range 250 – 400° F (121 – 204 C). I think that if we were having an indoor propane setup we would maybe be less enthusiastic about the oven and would have evolved more like you have. We haven’t been in touch with much Dutch oven users and while we have tried some basic pot-in-a-campfire recipes, we have opted for a pressure cooker [ours is also anodized!]. Camping in high altitudes and little wood around for us makes the choice for a pressure cooker more obvious. And since space is always an issue we don’t want to add something that we would barely use… for now. You know things change and as we are driving around South America now we don’t find the need, but that might change if we are driving in another continent…Off our original price. Quantities may vary by store. Some clearance product and price points may not be available at all locations. There isn’t much more to the product than this, and neither is there anything else you’d want for. It sits directly on top of your camping stove. It’s compatible with most, if not all of the 2-burner stoves I’ve reviewed. The first time I tried baking (brownies) I found the oven burned the bottom of the food before the the cooking was completed. I put this down to too much radiant heat from the bottom of the oven. Here are some numbers you might want to see. The dimensions without its chimney are 25.2 x 14.1 x 8.6 inches (64 x 36 x 22 cm), and the unboxed weight is 24.2 lb (10.9 kg). Delivered Monday to Saturday 8am-8pm, excluding bank holidays. Once despatched you will receive updates from the courier.
