About this deal

Our Brethren of the York Rite say that there is represented in every well-governed Lodge, a certain point, within a circle; the point representing an individual Brother; the Circle, the boundary line of his conduct, beyond which he is never to suffer his prejudices or passions to betray him.

They have the brute force of the HAMMER, but their blows help on the great cause, when struck within the lines traced by the RULE held by wisdom and discretion. so we sometimes rub our ears afterward and ask, utterly surprised and disconcerted, "what really was that which we have just experienced? The obligation of the candidate is always to be taken on the sacred book or books of his religion, that he may deem it more solemn and binding; and therefore it was that you were asked of what religion you were. Each party believes or pretends that it has the only true text, and each faction believes or pretends that it alone possesses the light.

With the rise of interdisciplinary legal studies, however, these teachings have begun to influence the law both in the West and beyond.Despotisms, seen in the past, become respectable, as the mountain, bristling with volcanic rock, rugged and horrid, seen through the haze of distance is blue and smooth and beautiful. This book was begun in Sorrento during a winter when it was given to me to pause as a wanderer pauses and look back across the broad and dangerous country my spirit had traversed up to that time.

With the YO-D in the centre, it has the kabalistic meaning of the Divine Energy, manifested as Light, creating the Universe. These are the symbols of the tyranny that degrades and crushes, and the corruption that defiles and infests. The lectures provided a backdrop for the degrees by giving lessons in comparative religion, history, and philosophy. On the surface this book comprises 861 pages of philosophy and esoteric insight into the Thirty-Two Degrees in Freemasonry.

The law of our being is Love of Life, and its interests and adornments; love of the world in which our lot is cast, engrossment with the interests and affections of earth. The new edition is augmented by subject headings, and illustrations from the original books Pike used, new paragraph numbers, and corrections based upon original texts. In his book Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie (1855), Lévi claimed that Freemasonry had its roots in ancient pagan rituals, and Pike accepted many of these claims. Present experience has, I am afraid, always found us "absent-minded": we cannot give our hearts to it—not even our ears!

The Master of Light and Life, the Sun and the Moon, are symbolized in every Lodge by the Master and Wardens: and this makes it the duty of the Master to dispense light to the Brethren, by himself, and through the Wardens, who are his ministers.
